Camilla Donantoni & Patrizia Montini Zimolo
Donantoni attained a degree with honors and a Doctorate in research of architectonic and urban composition at the IUAV, in Venice, Italy, where she performs collaborative teaching and research activities. She works as a tutor and belongs to the selection board of the Piranesi Prix de Rome for the Accademia Adrianea Onlus. She also published the volume “Ripensare l’esistente. Il caso delle Chiese di San Lorenzo di Castello.” A freelance Architect, she performs her activity maintaining particular attention to the role of composition in the architectural project.
Montini Zimolo graduated in architecture at IUAV where she is an Adjunct Professor and a Member of the Collegio Docenti del Dottorato. She was a Visiting Professor in several European universities and also a promoter for important workshops and international conventions. As a Partner of Studio Fabbri Associati, she participated in national and international architecture competitions. Her projects, centered on the relationship between architecture and city and on recording different urban phenomena, have been published in various Italian and foreign magazines and periodicals. In recent years, she has developed study and project experiences in the African territories and, since 2018, she is coordinating the Centro Studi AfroLab for the IUAV.

Donantoni ha ottenuto una laurea con lode e un Dottorato di Ricerca in Composizione Architettonica e Urbana presso lo IUAV, Venezia, dove svolge attività di collaborazione alla didattica e di ricerca. Lei svolge attività di tutor e appartiene alla commissione giudicatrice del Piranesi Prix de Rome per l’Accademia Adrianea Onlus. Lei ha inoltre pubblicato il volume “Ripensare l’esistente. Il caso delle Chiese di San Lorenzo di Castello.” Architetta libera professionista, svolge la sua attività mantenendo una particolare attenzione al ruolo della composizione nel progetto di architettura.
Montini Zimolo si è laureata in Architettura presso lo IUAV dove è Professore Associato in composizione e Membro del Collegio Docenti del Dottorato. Lei è stata “Visiting Professor” in diverse università europee e promotrice di importanti ricerche e workshop e di congressi internazionali. Come socio dello Studio Fabbri Associati ha partecipato a concorsi di architettura nazionali ed internazionali. I suoi progetti, centrati sul rapporto tra architettura e città e sulla registrazione dei differenti fenomeni urbani, sono stati pubblicati in varie riviste e periodici italiani e stranieri. Negli ultimi anni, sta sviluppando esperienze di studio e progetto in territorio africano e, dal 2018, coordina il Centro Studi AfroLab per lo IUAV.
I Go Beyond the Water
There, Where Earth Meets Water
The monumental Marghera Fort building represents a gateway to Venice, Italy, in which new waterways that lead towards the northern lagoon converge, extending the green lung of San Giuliano with a large aquatic park and a redesign of the sandbars, the marshes, the swamps, and the islets, that allow one to experience the insuppressible tie with the history of the lagunar ecosystem. Staying in Venice is accentuated by a redesign of the soil, with quays, docks, rafts, and terraces, new elevated paths, ramps, walkways that raise the quota of land with respect to the water along the hardest lines of the canal banks and wind, fragment, and dissolve themselves in the amphibious world of the lagoon. In this changing of the relationship earth-water, a new sequence of public spaces is organized for reception and for musical and theatrical events, transposing into our contemporary time a way of moving and staying in Venice that already belongs to a common habitat of the insular city. There, where the earth meets the water, the primary elements are found: quays, docks, boat sheds, lagoon parks, water basins, small theaters.

Lì, Dove la Terra Incontra l’Acqua
L’edificio monumentale di Forte Marghera rappresenta una porta d’accesso a Venezia, in cui convergono nuove vie d’acqua che portano verso la laguna nord, prolungando il polmone verde di San Giuliano con un grande parco acquatico e un ridisegno delle barene, degli acquitrini, delle paludi, e degli isolotti, che permettono di sperimentare l’insopprimibile legame con la storia dell’ecosistema lagunare. Lo stare a Venezia è accentuato da un ridisegno del suolo, con fondamenta, darsene, zattere, e terrazze, nuovi percorsi sopraelevati, rampe, passerelle che alzano la quota di terra rispetto all’acqua lungo le linee più dure delle rive del canale e si snodano, frammentano, e dissolvono nel mondo anfibio della laguna. In questo mutare del rapporto terra-acqua si organizzano una nuova sequenza di spazi pubblici per l’accoglienza e per eventi musicali e teatrali, trasportando nel contemporaneo un modo di muoversi e stare a Venezia che appartiene già ad un habitat comune della città insulare. Lì, dove la terra incontra l’acqua, si trovano gli elementi primari: fondamenta, darsene, cavane, parchi lagunari, vasche d’acqua, piccoli teatri.
